Watch: Villagers' New Video For 'The Waves'

Villagers has digitally released a new single, "The Waves," which will be available in a physical format on October 22.

Scanning the band's website, there aren't additional substantive details on the next album, due out in 2013 and the the followup to 2010's Mercury Prize-nominated Becoming A Jackal. However, Villagers, led by singer and songwriter Conor J. O'Brien will be touring with Grizzly Bear in the UK and Europe this fall.

Below, watch the retro-80s style video for the new track, pointing to Villagers' shift to a more electronic direction. As O'Brien told RTE at last weekend's Electric Picnic, "We have never used electronic before. It [The Waves] is very electronic and the whole album isn't that way to be honest. There are lots of electronic moments. This is the most blippy one. But we brought it out first on purpose because we wanted to rock the boat a little bit."

He also, revealingly, called the recording process a bumpy one, leading to "blow outs" in the band.
