And the Greenest Street in Brooklyn Is....
Sterling Street between Washington and Bedford Avenues in Prospect-Lefferts Garden.
The results of the 19th annual Greenest Block in Brooklyn contest are in. The award is given out annually by GreenBridge, a community environmental horiculture program associated with the Brooklyn Botanic Garden.

Sterling Street between Washington and Bedford Avenues in Prospect-Lefferts Garden won the $300 prize for the greenest residential block in the borough.
Two hundred commercial and residential blocks were judged on both their aesthetic and horticultural practices. This included color and total visual effect, citizen participation, variety and sustainability of plants, and street tree and tree bed care.
GreenBridges Director Robin Simmen said the residents of Sterling Street participated in clinics on how to beautify their street after over ten years of entering the contest without winning the coveted first place prize. She noted how the community started taking better care of their street trees and added more containers, native plants, and window boxes.

Simmen said the block’s story is typical and illustrates the whole point of the conest,"The contest was a way of encouraging people to green-up their neighborhoods and make them healthier both physically and communally, so people would build healthier, stronger communities."
Second place went to Montague Street between Clinton Hill and Henry Streets in Brooklyn Heights. Atlantic Avenue between Bond and Nevins Streets in Boerum Hill won first place for greenest commercial block.
