Angie McMahon: The Bitter End 2024
Angie McMahon's solo set at the The Bitter End, a cozy FUV Live concert for Marquee Members, was the ideal showcase for the intimate songs from her striking second album, Light, Dark, Light Again. It's been five years since the release of the Australian musician's debut album, Salt, and in those years, she's discovered deeper truths about herself as a songwriter — and a person.
McMahon's lyrics, delivered with gruff urgency, are declarations of new directions and self-care. She circles around habits that she can't tolerate in herself and others, as on "Exploding," a highlight of her FUV Live set ("Thank God I erupted/Instructions on people pleasin'/ Rained down like a bar fight on the ceilin') and "Letting Go" ("I've been learning 'bout letting go/How to do it without my claws").
In addition to songs pulled from Light, Dark, Light Again, McMahon also revisited the song that flung open so many doors for her, 2017's "Slow Mover," her debut single that eventually landed on Salt.
