Ani DiFranco: 2021
Righteous babe Ani DiFranco is back with Revolutionary Love. It’s her 22nd studio album and the songs on it offer a path to peace and reconciliation through empathy.
It’s also a meticulously thoughtful album, lyrically and musically. Her poetic words are healing and hopeful. Sonically, the album offers the space to exhale and recharge while still keeping the listener moving forward.
For this "Marquee Live at Home" show, Ani joined us from her home studio in New Orleans. She shared some behind-the-scenes stories of getting the album recorded during a pandemic and discussed its connection to the work and wisdom of activist Valarie Kaur. Ani also told me how she is approaching writing music differently these days.
A few guitars made an appearance too, as Ani performed a gorgeous set of music from the new album — with a little help from her dog, Pancho!
[Ed. Note: Ani DiFranco's FUV performance of "Simultaneously" was the fourth most-viewed NPR music video streamed in 2021.]
