Brooklyn Lawmaker Demands Weekend Buses

Brooklyn State Senator Martin Golden wants to pressure the MTA to restore weekend express bus service.

Brooklyn residents may get express buses rolling again during the weekends.

State Senator Martin Golden has started a petition drive urging the Metropolitan Transit Authority to restore service on the X27 and X28 bus routes. The weekend express bus service was lost in June 2010 due to budget cuts.

The Senator, who helped start the service in 2002, said “the weekend express bus service is a necessary means of transportation for many residents of South Brooklyn who are seniors, who are disabled, and who work weekends.”

According to Senator Golden, the transportation alternatives are far from adequate.

The Senator also said the weekend express bus service is an economic engine. “Continued service allows an easy and affordable means to go to Manhattan for dining, entertainment and shopping which is a positive economic stimulus for our city.”

The X27 and X28 routes serves the Bay Ridge, Dyker Heights, Bath Beach and Bensonhurst communities of Brooklyn.
