FUV at SXSW 2018
South by Southwest is a mix of conference and craziness that takes over Austin, Texas every March. Discovery is always a big part of the experience — on the interactive media and film fronts too — but it's the "music + discovery" part of the equation where FUV fits right in. As always, there's a ton of live music too, and here are the results of what we headed to SXSW to share with you.
FUV's video crew returned to Hotel San Jose, and its magic courtyard hosted another round of special performances to introduce you to these artists (click name for video):
We also joined NPR Music, VuHaus and some of our public radio comrades to bring you a six-artist showcase from the SXSW Public Radio Day Stage. If you missed the live broadcast on WFUV, you can listen to each set (just click the artist name) and see the scene in Austin too, with photos and a playlist of video highlights below.
- Sunflower Bean
These faves from our hometown offered up a live preview of their forthcoming sophomore album, Twentytwo in Blue. - Lo Moon
This Slingshot band last year built a wave of buzz to its 2018 debut album and national stages like this one. - Natalie Prass (Note: Audio is not edited for language.)
Her new album isn't out until June, but it looks to be a game changer for Prass and she let us hear why. - Nikki Lane
She brought her own brand of twang from Nashville to Austin with style and swagger. - Mélat
It was quite an introduction to Austin's own Mélat Kassa, and a soulful and innovative new voice in R&B. - The Shacks
The closing spotlight was on Slingshot 2018 with this Queens-based band, which repped NYC well.
