Golf Courses Seeing Green Thanks to Warm Weather

With the warmer temperatures, golfers have flocked to the fairways, and courses are benefitting with more income. 

Officials at Van Cortlandt Park Golf Course, located in the Bronx, are grateful that Mother Nature has been kind this year.

“Van Cortlandt Park Golf Course has been very fortunate throughout this winter season. With the mild winter and the increasingly warmer weather we have been able to maintain our course and have it ready for play earlier than in recent years," said Kevin Sheehan, Assistant Manager. 

The oldest public course in the United States was able to stay open even in what's typically difficult winter months, and many golfers took advantage by taking extra swings.

“Throughout January and February we were able to accommodate a vast amount of players trying to get as many practice rounds in as possible before the season started," Sheehan stated. 

With more people going to courses to play, parks such as Van Cortlandt have generated more income. Van Cortlandt starter Jim Milonas asserts that the mild temperatures allow the course to see more green.

“Well it [the weather] brings out more golfers; the more golfers that come out the more revenue we get," said Milonas. 

New York State Park officials say some of their courses are opening earlier this year too, including several on Long Island.
