Hermanos Gutiérrez: The Loft at City Winery 2024
Need a dreamscape to fold into these days? The brothers of the Swiss-Ecuadorian duo Hermanos Gutiérrez offer that escape and more on their mesmerizing sixth album, Sonido Cósmico. The instrumental guitar interplay of Estevan and his younger sibling Alejandro, an intricate dance of six-strings, pedal steel, and Latin-sparked psychedelia and cumbia, asks both body and mind to settle and listen.
FUV's Marquee Members did just that when the brothers played an intimate set at The Loft at City Winery, drawing on songs from their new album. The songs on Sonido Cósmico — which means "cosmic sounds" — are expansive and thoughtful, drawing on the Gutiérrez brothers' emotional dialogue between their guitars. It's impossible to watch the duo and not be drawn into their conversation, their words without words. If only real peace, empathy, and soulful camaraderie could flow as effortlessly as their beautiful compositions.
Watch videos of two of the songs from their latest album, "Low Sun," and the title track, "Sonido Cósmico." In addition, the brothers played a "desert medley" of three songs found on 2020's Hijos Del Sol: "Agua roja," "Railroad Vista" and "Western Bronco"
