Joan Didion was an American writer and journalist. Her most famous works include her novel Play It As It Lays, her memoir A Year of Magical Thinking, and the 1976 film A Star is Born. She is often referred to as a Californian figure, but now the Joan Didion and John Gregory Dunne Archive has found its place at the New York Public Library.
