Lucius: SXSW 2016
New York's own Lucius was part of the diverse, international lineup of this year's SXSW Radio Day Stage, powered by VuHaus, on Friday, March 18, broadcasting live from Austin, Texas, on WFUV 90.7FM with a video simulcast on VuHaus.
One of FUV's hometown favorites, Lucius has treated us over the years to FUV Live sessions, a Holiday Cheer appearance, and a CMJ showcase. They first hooked us back in 2012 with its debut EP, Lucius, and their first album, 2013's Wildewoman, was a revelation of lush, theatrical pop bravado, guided by the dynamic dual vocals of Jess Wolfe and Holly Laessig.
The quintet—Wolfe, Laessig, Dan Molad, Peter Lalish and Andrew Burri—just released their fine second album this month, Good Grief. The collection still finds Lucius mining irrepressibly catchy choruses ("Born Again Teen"), dream-pop gems ("My Heart Got Caught On Your Sleeve"), and funk-laced fancy ("Better Look Back"), but even the more effervescent songs are infused with darker observations and more intimate confessions.
Mixing brand new songs with a few from the band's debut, Lucius took on the SXSW Radio Day Stage with its signature melody and energy, stepping up the vocal power to a new level. Listen, watch, and sing along below.
