Margaret Glaspy: SXSW 2016
This week at SXSW, FUV caught up with several young artists and bands, all on the verge of bigger things, at Austin's Hotel Saint Cecilia. Native Californian Margaret Glaspy is set to release her debut album this summer. She cites catholic influences like Rage Against the Machine and Bill Withers, but her music strays to sinewy folk rock with attitude.
Bravery comes into play too, as Glaspy, who now lives in New York City, took on a Lucinda Williams cover for the Hotel Saint Cecilia crowd shortly after our video shoot. But here, away from the crowd, the simplicity of the set-up let the melody and boldness of her song "You and I" shine.
