Mayoral Candidate Anthony Weiner Announces His Healthcare Plan
On the campaign trail, New York City Mayoral Candidate Anthony Weiner has unveiled his plan for a new healthcare for all New Yorkers.
New York City mayoral candidate, Anthony Weiner, was out on the campaign trail Thursday touting his plan for lower cost, better quality health care for all New Yorkers.
Weiner spoke at CUNY Macaulay Honors College in Manhattan. He said by 2017 healthcare costs for the city are expected to rise by 40 percent.
One aspect of his plan looks to keep costs down by changing the way medicare and medicaid money is used. "We take the money we give it to the doctors, to the labs, to the pharmacies, to the hospitals. And, the insurance company takes a portion of it for themselves - for their shareholders, for their advertising, for their staff, for their bonuses." He said.
Weiner believes his plan would hold costs down by 50 percent.
This plan is part of Weiner's 64 Ideas to Keep New York the Capital of the Middle Class.
