Morning Brief: October 21
Famed fashion designer Oscar de la Renta has passed away at 82 after a long battle with cancer. Much can and would be said about where he went with fashion, but it should also be noted where he came from. De la Renta was from the Dominican Republic, and was probably the most prominent Dominican-American in this country for years—foreshadowing the growing influence of the islanders in NYC.
