New York Sees Increase in Organ Donations
New York State Senator David Carlucci announced Friday there is a rise in organ donations.
New York has seen an increase in organ donations this past year.
Lawmakers are crediting this increase to Lauren's Law. Lauren's Law requires those applying for a drivers license to answer yes or no when asked if they want to become donors.
New York State Senator David Carlucci says most people are checking yes.
"Organ donation is something that we often don't like to talk about," Carlucci says. "I think once people get cognitive of it, they decide to say yes. Simply by asking the question makes a huge difference."
Carlucci says there have been over 13,000 new registrants since Lauren's Law took effect last year. But he says New York still has one of the lowest rates of organ donations in the nation.
