NY Lawmakers Call for Better Evacuation Plan at Indian Point
NY lawmakers demand a more comprehensive evacuation plan.
As Indian Point Nuclear Power Plant seeks a 20-year license renewal, some New York lawmakers are calling for a better evacuation plan.
Bronx State Assemblywoman Naomi Rivera said the plant’s current plan is limited to a 10 mile evacuation zone.
Rivera said the plan should expand to include a 50 mile radius instead. “We’re talking about 1.4 million Bronx residents, approximately 8 million New Yorkers, and the 20 million Americans that live in the tri-state area.”
But, a spokesman for Indian Point said their emergency plans are tested and evaluated regularly by federal agencies.
