Park Advocates Call on NYC Mayoral Candidates to Speak Up
New Yorkers for Parks want the mayoral candidates to include park issues in campaign dialogue.
New York City Park advocates are calling on the mayoral candidates to include parks and open spaces in the campaign discussion. They stress the importance of knowing how the candidates plan to run the city's parks and open spaces before next month's primary.
The group New Yorkers for Parks also introduced a ten point platform on how they think the parks department can be improved. Executive Director Holly Leicht said the next mayor should start by hiring more workers. "Increase the maintenance budget. There just aren't enough people taking care of our parks." Leicht said.
The advocates are also calling for equal distribution of resources across the five boroughs and stronger regulation of the privatization of parks.
