Russ Borris: Moz on Broadway
Are your band T-shirts a part of your pandemic work/weekend/constant wardrobe? In our new "Concert TBTee" series every Thursday, we're asking the FUV DJs to dig through their dresser drawers for the concert and band T-shirts that mean the most to them and why.
It’s easy to get wrapped up in the absence of traditional live concerts and shows right now. With the struggles and challenges that have affected us all in 2020, I thought I’d reflect on a more recent live experience.
If you listen to "The Alternate Side" every Friday night at 9p.m. on FUV, you likely know that I’m a big Morrissey fan. I picked up this shirt when Moz did his limited run on Broadway at the Lunt-Fontanne Theatre in May of 2019.
To be honest, I haven’t purchased a lot of concert T-shirts over the years, maybe 10 or 12 in total. But this was the show that was billed as Morrissey “singing the songs that made you cry and the songs that saved your life” and I felt that I needed to stamp that memory with an accompanying tee.
The show itself was a blast with Moz in good spirits and playful with the audience. A personal highlight for me was getting to see him perform “Hairdresser on Fire” for the first time.
Ah, the live music experience. We’ll be together again someday.
