Spitzer Looks to Enter City Comptroller's Race

Five years ago, Eliot Spitzer resigned as governor of New York amid revelations of an embarrassing prostitution scandal. Now, as he seeks to repair his public image, Spitzer is looking to become New York City's next comptroller.

"I'm hopeful there will be forgiveness, I am asking for it," the Democrat told The New York Times on Sunday. 

In order to get his name on the primary ballot in September, Spitzer will need to collect at least 3,750 signatures by Thursday. 

In a statement released Sunday night, mayoral candidate Christine Quinn expressed her full support for Scott Stringer, Manhattan's borough president, in the race for comptroller.

"Scott Stringer has been an exceptional borough president with the highest ethical standards," Quinn said.
