The Avett Brothers: 2020

The Avett Brothers' new album, The Gleam III, is the third in the band's "Gleam" series (and also WFUV's New Dig this week). Musically, the eight songs on the record are stripped back, but as is customary with the Avetts, the songs are lyrically robust. The subject matter examines vital issues of race, religion, mortality, and more while offering a spark of light and compassion.

To dive into the album, I had a chance to talk with Scott Avett about the songs and how he and Seth have been doing during the pandemic and on hiatus from the road. Fortunately for FUV, they were both still up for sharing a few songs live — on video too — and were even joined on a couple of tunes by the Avett Brothers' longtime bassist, Bob Crawford.
