Winner of the Mercury Prize in 2022, Little Simz has ascended as one of the most important voices in contemporary hip hop — so much so that she will be curating the 2025 Meltdown Festival at London's Southbank Centre from June 12-22 (past curators have included The Cure's Robert Smith, David Bowie and Grace Jones). Just prior to that event, Little Simz will release a new album, Lotus, on May 9 and tonight on "UKNY" at 11 p.m., the first single from it which features her friends Obongjayar and Moonchild Sanelly.
And since this week is the SXSW Music Festival, a preview of some of the British and Canadian musicians headed to Texas, including Montréal's La Sécurité and Bibi Club, Cardiff-based Mellt, Glasgow's Cloth, and Manchester's Antony Szmierek, who released his debut album, Service Station at the End of the Universe, at the end of February.
Also, another new track from Black Country, New Road's forthcoming album Forever Howlong.
That and more on "UKNY," Sundays 11 p.m.-midnight, on 90.7FM, streaming online, and in the Archives after broadcast.
