Jay Doherty is a reporter at WFUV, where he is co-host of the What’s What podcast and has interviewed several local politicians, authors, and community leaders. Jay is currently studying Journalism and Theology at Fordham University, where he is a Curran Honors Concentrator in American Catholic studies. Jay is an intern at CNN’s Anderson Cooper 360° where he works with the 360° team to produce nightly primetime news, including CNN’s live coverage of the attempted assassination of former President Donald Trump, Anderson’s on-the-ground coverage of Hurricane Helene, digital coverage of live Israeli-Iranian conflict in the Middle East, and the globally-broadcast special coverage of the 2024 U.S. presidential election.
As a Duffy Fellow through Fordham’s Center on Religion and Culture, Jay co-directed the award-winning documentary Discerning the Call: Change in the American Priesthood, which premiered at The Howard Gilman Theater in April 2024. He also serves as the 2024-2025 Leahey Renaissance Research Fellow in the Fordham College Dean’s Office, where he is producing a long-form historical podcast series about Japanese-American spirituality and religious diplomacy in the post-World War II United States. This project was inspired by his work as an assembly editor and researcher for Ministry of Ideas, a Harvard Divinity School podcast about faith and culture.
In 2025, Jay will study journalism, new media, and international relations while a visiting student in England at the University of Oxford. After completing studies there, he will travel to Lusaka to direct a documentary that explores the Catholic Church’s influence on Zambian society and culture.
